QuestionHey Pete, here I am again with a follow-up question. Right after your answer - I went into the hospital - just had the car checked today - the mechanic that has worked on it said that the head gasket was ok.I haven't noticed any smoke since my question to you. The mechanic said that I am burning oil. Cyl. seal/rings? I haven't had to add any antifreeze since my last question. He checked for pressure at the radiator. It had pressure and was full. I have been driving pretty easy. He had me press on the gas a good bit and then it started smoking. He said it was ok to drive - make sure it has plenty of oil. What do you think? I can't afford a large expense right now just before Christmas if I can avoid it - What do you know of liquid sealers? I read about something called steel seal?

My 98 dodge avenger has white smoke coming from the exhaust and an awful smell. Prior to the i have had the plugs and wires changed, no oil in the distributor. Some vacuum line part changed when it was cutting off. I have had to add to the overspill tank some and i have had to add oil some. What does this sound like to you? Ex-husband said cat. converter, i read cyl. gasket? Single mom here, what kind of shop do I take it too? Help, maybe just give me some hints

this is a bad head gasket take it to a good eng shop so they can do a good job and do a right job .

Now yes with bad rings u can run for a long time they have a high milage oil which will help it will be fine to drive and with the oil i told you about you could wait a year or so .
