Dodge Repair: bad vibration in steering column, 98 intrepid 2.7, constant velocity joints, power steering racks

Question
have a bad vibration in steering column and brakes, shop says the bearing for the axle to transaxle connection is bad and needs to be replaced. info on this problem would be very useful            Thanks

Answer
I'm not quite sure of the bearing you're speaking of.  On 98 intrepids there is a bearing at the wheel and then bearings inside the transmission.  Additionally, the driveshafts have constant velocity joints which are bearings by design.  However, there are no bearings anywhere in the mid-sections of the shafts so I don't know exactly what they are talking about.

It is possible that an axle shaft (or cv shaft) can create a wobble or shimmy on acceleration.  Also, the brake rotors, if warped, can cause a shimmy/shudder while they are applied which changes frequency as the vehicle speed changes.

It's important to differentiate between a seperated belt in the tire versus a worn suspension component.  Also, your vehicle style has been known for having steering components such as power steering racks and inner tie rod ends/bushings fail which also add to steering problems.
