Ford Repair: 1998 Ford Taurus 3.0 OHV, blown head gasket, taurus 3

Question
Tony,

I am the tire expert at AllExperts.com, so I know how this is.

But I have been fixing a blown head gasket on my Taurus and have run into a problem.

I removed the ignition module - the Hall Effect device that goes where distributors used to do .  Unfortunately, I did not mark where the thing was set when I took it out.

The Chilton's manual says I need a Ford tool to get it lined up, but that seems pretty silly.  I am guessing the tool lines the "tooth" up with the opening - but I could be wrong.

Does that sound right?

Answer
Hello Barry, You are going to need the tool, it sets the syncro in the right positiion. If the sensor is still on it you can remove it and place the tool right on for set up. If memory serves me right it puts timing at 15 degrees. Would have saved time to mark it but if you have the tool hopefully everything goes smoothly. Thanks Tony
