Ford Repair: 1997 Ford Crown Victoria, Ignition, ford crown victoria, odd ball

Question
Hello! My 1997 Ford Crown Victoria (non-police) will sometimes run rough especially when hot and the AC is on (seems to be missing like one cylinder is not firing). After a while it will run again just fine. The engine light will come on when the problem occures which I just re-set by disconnecting the batter for a few minutes. i have read so much about COIL-PACKS. The car has 165K on it and the COIL-PACKS have never been replaced. Should I just go ahead and replace them??? Is this a simple install??? Anything odd ball stuff I should be aware of???  I am sure the wires and plugs and good as they have been replaced...

Answer
Unlike pre-1996 vehicles, simply disconnecting the battery does not clear the codes. Have them read at your local parts store, its free. Pull the spark plug indicated by the code telling you which cylinder is misfiring. I would start there. A set of plugs and wires first. If it is one of the 2 coil packs, you will only be out an additional 50 dollars or so. I highly recommend Motorcraft everything. If your parts store doesn't stock them, go down the road, one of them will.
