Ford Repair: Interior light in Ford Ranger XLT wont turn off, ford ranger xlt, latch assembly

Question
Hi Mark

I have a 1993 Ford Ranger XLT supercab with 90k miles on it. Today, when I returned to my vehicle, the interior light was still on. I thought I'd maybe left the door ajar, but when I started the car, the lights didn't turn off either. I tried moving the switch around, but the middle bulb will simply not shut off -only the bulbs on either side seem to be controlled by the switch.

I'm concerned about leaving this problem overnight and having my battery drained by the light. It's not obvious to me how to take off the cover of the light to remove the bulbs. Is there anything I can do to shut off the light and/or fix this problem?

Thanks very much for your help!
Vanessa

Answer
your door ajar and dome light switch is made in the door latch-get a can of wd-40 open your door and spray into the door latch liberally and close and open the door about 6-7 times do this three or four times both doors if that doesn't work have it replaced either switch or switch and latch assembly (as always there are other things that can cause this but this is common)
