Ford Repair: 1977 Ford E-350 460 7.2l, barrel carburetor, vacuum leak

Question
Hi,
I have a 1977 Ford E-350 (in the manual it says E-373?) with the 460 7.2l engine in it.  It has a 2 barrel carburetor on it rather than the 4 barrel.  I just changed the fuel pump on it, and it was working fine.  But, I ran out of gas the other day and now it sounds like it floods out when I push on the accelerator.  I took off the air filter as it was VERY dirty, is it possible that the air filter gummed up the inside of the carb and is making something stick inside it?   After I changed the fuel pump I made sure all of the hoses were connected to the carb and as I said it was running well, but now it almost seems as if there is a vacuum leak but I can't find one.  Please help!
Joshua

Answer
Hello Joshua, did it run out of fuel after the the fuel pump replacment, if so you may have had some dirt or sediment in the carb that now may be clogging a jet or needle/seat or accell pump on the carb. That is where I waould start 1st. Hope this helps Thanks Tony
