Ford Repair: Sticky windows, silicone spray, window channels

Question
Hi

I wonder if you can help,

I know this is not an electric fault, its more likely a lubricant one or something else?

I have a 12 year old 18OOcc fuel injected 16Valve Ford Escort. The problem I have is with the electric windows.

I have power windows connected to my car alarm, so one press should close the windows fully. However they go up all the way, then slow to a stop with about an inch to full closure on both the drivers and the passengers front doors. Once they have stopped, continuous manual pressing of the button will take the windows up to full closure but very very slowly.

Any Ideas

Many Thanks

Answer
You may have some rubber bunching up in the window channel. I have no experience with windows wired into the alarm. I tend to discourage this sort of equipment because of the problems the added goodies can create with the factory stuff.

Try lubricating the window channels with some silicone spray. Do not use oils or any kind of greasey lube as it will ruin the rubber parts.

Followup-

I got to thinking about this one while in the shower. Is this a new system or one you have had for awhile? I am wondering if there might be an adjustment of some kind for the window travel, as part of the add-on system you have. Ford does use mechanical window stops, but those don't come loose unless someone is in there working on them. So I'm sure it is not a mechanical stop problem. But like the Mustang and TBird convetibles that drop the door window a bit for opening and closing, maybe your system has something similar.
