Ford Repair: Ford Air box (heat & AC problems, radator, vacuum motor

my climate control seems to have no afect my fan works fine i have all heat on all settings I have a new radator and thermastat because the old radator was pluged up some times if the control is set for the dash the air well just start to come from the floor I was told that the air box was broken and it would cost $1,000 to fix it this is a 1996 explorer that i only use to pull a boat so i am not going to spend that kind of money on it If it is that is there a way i can wire it to just have AC. at least for the summer?

Sounds like you may have two separate problems. The lack of changing temperature is real common on Explorers as the blend door in the heater box tends to break. Usually the door will stay on the heat side because of where it breaks, many times the blend door motor also fails or overruns it's travel and must be replaced also.

The switching from vent to floor is another matter as those functions are vacuum controlled. The system will default to defrost if there is a loss of vacuum, so you probably have a control issue with the control head or a vacuum motor. There is no easy fix for either problem.

I have seen on the internet two temporary fixes for the door problem, but I don't recommend either one simply because they are band aids and not a repair.
