Ford Repair: Ignition switch, screw holes, victoria police

Hello, How do I remove the ignition switch from a 1999 crown victoria police cruiser?   Jeff

If you are referring to the electrical switch, here are the instructions, Unfortunately the pictures didn't copy


Ignition Switch
Removal

Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section 414-01.
Position the LH instrument panel insulator aside.
Remove the pin-type retainers.
Position the insulator.

Remove the LH instrument panel insulator.
Disconnect the courtesy lamp.
Remove the insulator.

Remove the lower instrument panel steering column opening cover.
Remove the screws.
Unhook the parking brake release handle and position aside.
Remove the cover.

Remove the five bolts to remove the instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement.

Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector.
Loosen the bolt.
Disconnect the electrical connector.

NOTE: The ignition key should be in the OFF position.

Remove the ignition switch.
Remove the bolts.
Remove the switch.

Installation

To install, reverse the removal procedure.


If you are referring to the ignition lock cylinder, locate a small hole below the key, in the platic trim, it is next to one of the screw holes. Turn the ignition key to ON, and push a smallpunch or screwdriver into the hole releasing the tab and pull the cylinder out. Turn the new cylinder to ON and insert, turn it to OFF to lock it in.
