Ford Repair: Engine Repair, salvage yard, repair man

Question
I recently had my engine in my 2000 Ford Focus replaced with a used engine. I think I should be provided with information about were the eingine was bought from or some sort of legal paper work showing what is now in my car.  Also, how does a repair man determine how to warranty an engine that has been replaced? I was only given a 1 year warranty.

In a perfect world all used engines would come with such papaerwork, but most suppliers and shops consider it too time consuming to do this.  The problem is that the engine can be bought and sold half a dozen times before it ever gets installed into a car.  It starts at a junk or salvage yard, then gets bought by a broker, then maybe another broker and so on until it finally gets bought by a shop for an install.  Plus you never know how the original owner treated the engine (i.e. oil changes, driving habits, etc.).  The warranty time is solely at the discretion of the shop installing the motor or the company selling it.  Generally speaking a 1 year warranty is fairly good for a used, non-rebuilt motor.  A lot of shops will only warranty them for 90 days in some cases.  Hope this helps.
