Ford Repair: 2001 Ford Explorer Sport EGR Valve Position Sensor, ford explorer sport, gas tubes

Question
Erik,

Thanks for taking my question(s).

I have a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport 2WD 4.0L.  The check engine light has been on for months now.  A scanner says it is the EGR Sensor.  Prior to running a scan, I replaced both O2 sensors hoping that might  get the light to go out.  But after restting the computer, the light reappeared.  Finally I scanned it and came up with a bad EGR Position Sensor code.

Question is  Where is this part located under the hood?  The replacement part I bought does not resemble any part currently on the engine.  It is entirely possible that NAPA gave me the wrong part.

I'll try to describle where I think it is - Standing on the drivers side with the hood up, I can see 2 gas tubes coming out of the header (if you will).  The opposite ends of the gas tubes go into a sensor of some sort.  From the same sensor I can trace an electrical wire that runs from the sensor to the EGR Valve.  If in fact the is the sensor, NAPA is way out in right field.  Their part and the current part are about as far apart as night and day.

Please Help.

Thanks

Answer
Hello and thanks for the question...I'll try to help.
Typically the EGR position sensor is located on top of the EGR valve.......but what you have it a DPFE sensor. It should have a large and a small nipple on it and also an electical connector location. This is usually located near the EGR valve on a bracket.
Hope this helps,
Erik
