Ford Repair: abs light, ford explorer xlt, rear abs

Question
Hi there Jeff.I have a 93 Ford Explorer XLT auto and my abs light tends to come on from time to time.Mostly it happens when the vehicle is stationary with my foot on the brake.I live in South Africa so advice for these vehicles is scarce and the parts are very expensive.Any advice?
thanks
Regards
Pieter.

Answer
Hi Pieter,
Make sure the brake fluid level is OK. If low you may need a brake reline. Or you may have a fluid leak. If master cylinder fluid is OK then you need to have the codes pulled from the ABS computer. The usual problem is the rear ABS sensor, which is mounted in the top the rear axle. $30 dollars American. The next most often problem is the RABS valve($200). REMEMBER: you do not need ABS to drive a vehicle!
