Ford Repair: 1988 Mustang 2.3 L VIN # 10 Digit =J, engine cranks, dual plugs

Question
I have a 1988 Mustang LX Hatchback that my son has put a junkyard 2.3L engine into this is the same type eng that came in the car I think. I know it was originaly equipped with a 2.3L but I don't know if it had the 2 plug / cyl. version or the single plug / cyl eng. At any rate the single plug / cyl version is what we now have and there is a two wire connector that we can't identify. The wires are tan and red. The red wire carries 12v when switched at the ignition. The engine cranks and wants to start but will not run. Can you help us .I have checked Alldata wiring diagrams and haven't had any luck in identifying this connector. Thank You Jim.

Answer
I dont know off the top of my head what the tan wire is.  I dont think its for the ignition though, that wire is usually white.  Your car came with the single plug cylinder heads, dual plugs was not untill the mid 90's.  Check your engine for spark, the ignition is probably not the problem as long as you have everything pluged in.
