Honda Repair: Civic fuel door release, visible movement, honda dealer

Question
My daughter has a 2 year old Civic coupe. The remote fuel release does not work. If I have someone operate the release while I push the button on the release in, it stays in, but there is no visible movement on the release button otherwise. Is there an adjustment for the cable that compensates for stretching or does the cable have to be replaced? She is now removing the actuator from inside the trunk to release the door. Thanks

Answer
Hey Jim, yeah its a common problem for 01-05 Civics. The cable is broken at the fuel/trunk release and will have to be replaced. Currently there is an updated cable for sedans but a coupe one is coming. The vehicle should be still under warranty for this problem so getting it replaced at a HONDA dealer shouldn't be a problem especially considering it is a common problem and a service bulletin has been issued. If the updated part isn't available yet for the coupes which I'm not sure it is a new cable will be installed regardless. Hope this helps. RICK
