Honda Repair: egr valve, car spark plugs, v tec

I was told a couple of months ago that my egr valve may need replacing. Yesterday my car statrted sputttering and i smell gas, would this have anything to do with the egr valve? My car is a 96 Honda Accord V-Tec 4 cyclinder, with 140, 000 miles on it and i live in Columbus Ga.

Usually an EGR valve will cause a misfire or start and stall if stuck. It is possible but not likely. I need more info, did the MIL illuminate (check engine light)and if so what code? Whats the tune-up condition of the car (spark plugs, cap & rotor, air filter etc)? Sounds like the car is flooding itself. There are many variables involved. If you could give me more info I could probably help you a little more. Let me know, RICK
