Honda Repair: Road noise, brake rotors, dust shields

Question
I have a 2002 CRV with 19,000 miles on it.  After a routine service and state inspection, I noticed it began to make a noise like driving over a steel bridge at about 50 mph on regular roads.  At first I thought it was the road surface, then it did it again on another road I drive often and had never had that sound before on that road.  The sound goes away when I go to lower speeds.  Except that it did it again last week and sounded very loud.  I pulled into a parking lot because I feared I had a flat tire.  Nothing appeared to be wrong and the sound went away.  I never hear the sound on day to day travelling to and from work at lower speeds.  Thank you.

Answer
Diane,

Since I did not hear the noise, all I can do is guess. To me it sounds like your front brake dust shields are hitting the brake rotors. If they are very close to the rotors, it is possible to make noise only sometimes, like when the body flexes a certain way. They may have bent them by accident when they were checking your brakes with the inspection. Other than that, is would be hard to diagnose over the internet.
Your car is under warranty, so I would take it to a dealer and have them check it out for you.
Good luck and thanks for the question.
