Hyundai Repair: Hyundai terracan diesel, hyundai terracan diesel, timing belt replacement

Question
Following installation of timing belt at 80,000k (50,000 miles) car has developed
uneven 'hunting' style idle. On cruise control I have noticed it 'missing' at
65mph. Rough idle is most noticeable after warming up or having completed a
few miles

Answer
Hi, Steve.  Hyundai doesn't use any of their diesel engines here in the U.S., so I have very little specific information for you.

On the other hand, I'm curious to know why the timing belt was replaced.  If the previous belt stripped or broke, it's possible the valves were damaged, causing your misfire.

In addition, if the camshafts were not timed properly when the new belt was installed, that can cause your symptoms as well.

If a repair facility did this work for you, it's probably in your best interests to return the vehicle to the same repair shop indicating that these symptoms were not present prior to the timing belt replacement.
