Hyundai Repair: car wont start, hyundai elantra, car wont start

Question
Hello,

I have a 2005 Hyundai Elantra. I was not with my car for a week and it had to get towed because my parents had to move it (as it was locked and had no extra keys). As it got towed, the anti theft alarm system went off. So it kept on beeping for a week. We thought maybe if we charged the battery the car would turn on. what is going on? It seems like my car is not even keeping its charge. In conclusion, is there a specific way to turn off the anti theft, and is something wrong with my battery?

Answer
Hi, Kristen.

If the anti-theft is preventing the car from starting, you should be able to disable it with your remote.

If you do not have a remote, use the following procedure to turn off the factory anti-theft:
1.  Unlock the car, enter, and shut the driver's door.  (The alarm should sound).
2.  Place the key in the ignition, turn it to the start position, and release it as if the engine had started and were running.
3.  Wait 30 seconds.  (The alarm will typically stop after about 20 seconds.  You must wait the entire 30 seconds.)
4.  Turn the key to the start position.

Sometimes, this procedure doesn't work on the first try.  If not, don't be afraid to try it a couple more times.  Simply return to step 2.
