Hyundai Repair: Trunk Indicator Light on, hyundia sonata, fuse boxes

Question
I have a 1999 Hyundia Sonata with v6.  Recently the trunk indicator light came on.  I checked the trunk switch for operation it seemed fine.  That is the switch was closed when the trunk was open and when manually tripped it was in the open position.  I am assuming that I have a short somewhere in the harness.  Is there a way to cut the curcuit under the dash to make this short go away.  The car only has to last another year.  If I could have found the wiring diagram I would trace it out.

Thank you

Answer
Hi, Peter.  Before resorting to anything drastic, check all your fuses in both the underhood and dash fuse boxes.  If I recall correctly, a certain fuse blowing will cause feedback in such a way that this indicator illuminates.

Presuming all the fuses check okay, next unplug the switch.  It's possible that even though the plunger works properly, the switch itself can still be shorted.

If the problem is indeed a short between the switch and cluster, you can indeed cut the wire at the rear of the cluster to eliminate the short (keeping in mind that your trunk lamp and lid ajar indicator will no longer operate).
