When the A/C is turned on there is a horrible odor coming out of the ducts. What my be causing it?

If this odor occurs in both fresh air and recirculated air modes, it's in the air distribution system itself.  To attempt to resolve this, operate the climate control fan at high speed, the air selector on fresh air, and the temperature on heat.  Then spray aerosol air freshener in the air intake at the base of the passenger side of the windshield.

If this method is ineffective, there are professional deodorizing procedures.  Call around a few shops in your area to see who might offer this service.
