Hyundai Repair: 2002 Hyundai Sonata Engine Light Oxygen Sensor, 2002 hyundai sonata, numeric digits

Question
Hi, my engine light has come on and it seems to stagger and experience a loss of power. The garage put it on the computer and came back with a code for first, the oxygen sensor and second, the transmission. They estimated the repair to be about $275 total. My question is, what do those codes mean, and how much should the part(sensor)and labor time be? I love it, but repairs are beginning to mount up - a broken A frame last month, and now this. I also seem to be getting poorer mileage. Help, please. Thanks, JAS

Answer
Hi, Jessica.  I'll need more information to tell you what your codes mean.  The reason for this is that you haven't given me the trouble codes, but rather an interpretation of what they indicate.  I can guarantee, however, that for $275, you're not getting a new transmission.

To help you know specifically what the codes indicate and the next logical steps, I'll need to know the code numbers themselves.  The codes should all be the letter P followed by four numeric digits.

As you may have been able to ascertain from the length of time it took me to respond to your question, I've been  having difficulties responding to questions in a reasonable amount of time.  I plan on taking myself off the available expert list in the near future because of this issue-- I'm unable to currently properly serve the interests of questioners like you.  If I'm still an active expert, by all means please respond.  But if I've already taken myself off or placed myself on indefinite leave, you may wish to take the information to a message board such as www.talkaboutautos.com.  For now, it appears there are no other experts for Hyundai.
