Hyundai Repair: Crankshaft position sensor, crankshaft position sensor, hyundai sonata

Question
Hi,
the car is a 2.4l 2001 hyundai sonata.

Answer
The crankshaft position sensor is located behind the lower timing cover near the crankshaft sprockets.  It reads a plate between the two crankshaft sprockets.  You'll need to remove the timing belt to replace the sensor, so unless the timing belt has been just recently replaced, it's a good idea to replace the timing belt and tensioner and balance shaft belt while you're doing this work.  Also, consider the mileage on the car in relationship to whether you think it's a good idea to replace the water pump.  Replacing the water pump also requires removing the timing belt, so you may be saving time and effort by replacing it while servicing the sensor.
