Hyundai Repair: fuel line, hyundai dealer, auto parts store

Question
2001 elantra; under my car i noticed a 2 inch section of fuel line badly rusted. how can i cut that out, and attach  a new piece of steel line to the old line. my local auto parts store has steel line sections with differant ends and many types of fittings for attaching them but i have no idea which type i should use.

Answer
In general, you don't want to cut fuel line if you can avoid it.  You'll want to purchase enough line to run between the fittings on either end of the section that's rusted, and bend it to fit.  If you need more than one piece, you should be able to purchase junction fittings to join the new lines together.

You should also be able to purchase from your local Hyundai dealer, the section of line you need already bent to fit.  This method usually results in the easiest and most professional installation.

If you must cut out a section of fuel line, you'll need to flare the ends and install fittings on the line, which isn't within the realm of possibilities for most do-it-yourselfers.  I also don't recommend this due to the facts that a leak can be hazardous, and that it's difficult to make a good flare with a hand flaring tool.
