Hyundai Repair: brakes, phillips screws, rear rotors

Question
How do I remove the rear rotors on a 2001 Sonata GLS V6?  Also about every 5-10 thousand miles my check engine light illuminates and my number 5 cylinder missing is the response I get from the diagnostic tool.  I have already changed the wire and plug twice. It drives fine for a while and then it starts missing. The wire is burnt (arcing?) near the spark plug end. Can you offer any advice about this?  Thanks

Thomas

Answer
Hi, Thomas.  I'm sorry it's been so long for you to receive an answer.  It appears that a previous expert left and the questions he didn't answer were simply dumped into the system.  I didn't check here very frequently because the questions all appeared to be at least six months old.  If you are still having the issue and need more information than I've provided, please follow-up with me.

To remove the rear rotors, you'll need to remove the calipers and caliper mounting brackets (as an assembly if desired), and also remove the one or two Phillips screws attaching the rotor to the wheel hub.  Usually, a good whack or two with a heavy plastic hammer will break the rotor free from the hub for easy removal.

If the wire is arcing near the spark plug end, the wire is defective.  You should also check the spark plug for a carbon track down the insulation of the plug.  If present, you'll need to replace the plug as well.  This will provide a path for the voltage outside of the cylinder, preventing combustion.  I recommend using only factory wires and name brand good quality plugs such as NGK or Denso.
