Hyundai Repair: 06 Azera 3.8, ethylene glycol, water coolant

Question
Would using a water coolant enhancer like Red Line {wetter than water} or purple ice by Royal Purple void the warranty if the engine developed a leak in the head gasket or some other coolant related problem.  I plan on going to New Mexico, Arizona, and other western states where the temp is very hot.

Answer
I'm not familiar with the products in question, so I went to google.

From the Red Line site:
"Use with a long-life antifreeze if freezing temperatures are to be encountered."
This seems to suggest that regular-life anti-freeze may have an issue with this product.  I'm not sure why.  One possibility is that it reacts detrimentally with some of the additives in most Ethylene Glycol coolnats.

I didn't see anything of concern on the Royal Purple site.

While both products claim to raise heat transfer into the coolant, it's questionable whether this is beneficial even if the products do what they say.  Remember that the Azera is also sold in the areas where you'll be travelling and is designed to operate normally there.  As long as the thermostat and fan can control engine coolant temperature in the manner in which they were designed, adding these chemicals will accomplish nothing more than less fan operation and the thermostat opening and closing more frequently.

Most importantly, in order to preserve the heat transfer capabilities of your coolant, it's important keep your coolant mixture at 50% ethylene glycol.  Of course, if you haven't had occasion to disturb the system, this shouldn't be an issue.
