Hyundai Repair: Leak in car after it rains 2002 hyundai, hyundai elantra, drainage holes

Question
I own a 2002 Hyundai elantra, which i have had many problems with form the day of purchase.  Well my most recent dilemma is that my drivers side front and rear gets flooded with water after it rains.  The drivers side front and back carpets are the only things that get wet-no seats, or other components of the car are touched with water--My mechanic says there is no problem--Obviously there is--alot of water is entering the car about 5-6inches on the floor--
Where can the leak be coming from?
Where are the drainage holes?
what can be done?
HELP!!!!! I am at my wits end with this car

By the way it is still under warranty--could this be fixed under warranty

thank you so much
Frances

Answer
It's unclear whether your warranty would cover this problem.  Hyundai specifies that water leaks are covered for only 1 year/12,000 miles.  But you may have some luck considering that most of the components of your vehicle are covered by a 5 year/60,000 mile warranty against defect in material and workmanship.  Water leaks notwithstanding, this warranty should still apply.  But this all presumes that the water leak is due to a defect and not due to collision damage or faulty repair work.

If you're collecting water on driver's side front and rear, the problem could be a leak in the windshield, trunk, roof, or doors, some of them depending on whether the vehicle faces uphill or downhill when the leak occurs.

I'd recommend trying the dealer first to see what they have to say.  If you'll need to pay for repairs, and you'd rather not pay the dealer, you can try contacting a water leak specialist.
