Hyundai Repair: 02 Sonata power steering leak, power steering leaks, power steering hose

Question
Within seconds of turning on the car power steering fluid begins to pour out underneath.  It appears to be coming from underneath the metal box up near the firewall in the center of the engine compartment.  The timing belt was replaced about six months ago.

Answer
In most cases, large power steering leaks are either from a hole in a power steering hose or a rusted power steering line.

If you cannot ascertain the source of the leak by inspecting with the vehicle off, you may need to have someone start the engine (keep clear of moving components) and turn the wheel while you watch for the squirting.  Most areas of the engine compartment on this vehicle are readily visible simply by leaning over the area to be inspected.
