Hyundai Repair: 2001 elantra headlamps burning out, defective alternator, bulb failure

Question
What could cause my front headlamps to burn out all the time. My only guess is they must be getting too hot, what could cause that though?

Answer
The H7 bulb has a shorter lifetime than many other bulbs I've seen.  Depending on the manufacturer of the bulb, the bulb may also be of a low quality, resulting in an even lower life expectancy.

If there's no discoloration to the bulb other than a black mark inside, and it has a broken filament, you should expect that there's likely no outside source causing the bulb failure.

If the failed bulb glass is white in color or cracked, you should look for signs of water intrusion into the lamp assembly.

Additionally, an overvoltage condition from a defective alternator can cause bulbs to blow prematurely, but if this were to occur, you air bag warning lamp should illuminate.
