Hyundai Repair: Hyundai Sonata Check Engine Light, 2002 hyundai sonata, car fax report

Question
2002 Hyundai Sonata Base model (62K mileage)

I recently purchased this car and of course, as I feared with buying a used car...I am having problems. This is what has happened since buying the car:
Filled car with gas, gas meter did not go all the way to F (it stopped at 3/4 tank)

Took the car for inspection, failed emissions, they said I needed a new gas cap

While driving the car the check engine light goes on

Took the car to get check engine diagnostics, said  "Evaporative Vent Control", replaced Evaporative Vent Solenoid. Also ordered a gas cap.

The result of this was that the check engine light turned off, I was able to fill up the gas and the gas meter worked

Then 3-4 days later after driving the car daily, the check engine light goes back on.

This is where I am now.  According to my car fax report, they said there is an open recall "Recall #066 Fuel Cut Valve Installation"
I plan to get that fixed and put the new gas cap on tomorrow.

At this point I do not know what to do, my hope is that the recall is what the problem is.  I also would like to know if you think the car is safe to drive for the time being.  What is your professional opinion?  Is this something you've encountered?  Any input would be helpful because I am nearly fed up with this.  Thank you.

Answer
Recall 066 won't have anything to do with the check engine lamp.

In order to tell you what may be going on with the check engine lamp, I'll need to know what the code is.  If you need a fuel cap, it's possible the fuel cap is causing the code.

If the check engine lamp is not flashing and the engine and transmission seem to be operating normally, there should be no hazard to driving the vehicle.  If you haven't done so already, have it checked when you return for the recall.
