Isuzu Repair: 1996 isuzu rodeo tranny slipping, isuzu rodeo, vacuum line

Question
QUESTION: Hi, I have a 1996 Isuzu Rodeo 4x4 v6- it drives good once you get past 1st gear. It will slip and jerk but then it drives fine after that gear. What do you suggest could be wrong with it or needs repair?? any help at all would be greatly appreciated. I had my mechanic take a look but he said you need a special tool for the tranny that he did not have.

ANSWER: Well Amanda, your mechanic is probably right. I would suggest having them flush the tranny and install a new filter and gasket. Have you checked into an anti-slipping additive in your transmission? I have put these in transmissions and it does wonders. Any auto parts stores should have it. It's called tranny docotr and comes in a small cylinder-like tube.

QUESTION: Hello again-We bought this vehicle not knowing how crappy it is!! There is a vacuum line on the front axle looped to the same line and there is anothr vacuum line hanging from the engine compartment hanging down not connected and is active-- Are these for the four wheel drive or no? and if so is it complicated to fix??  The four wheel is not engaging-- Thanks Again

Answer
Well that is most likely the culprit. And yes they are crappy vehicles! My advice is to sell it asap!! The 4wd shifter and linkage can also sometimes become stuck or jam up and you have to un-jam it. I would recommend having the linkgage and your vacuum hoses as well as all wiring checked running from your 4wd button to your transfer case and back. ALL VACUUM HOSES MUST BE HOOKED UP. I recently purchased a 1997 montero sport ls 4wd and I love the thing to death! Drove it back form Wyoming and not one single problem! Gets about 24 city and 20 in town mpg!!!!!!
