Jeep Repair: rear wiper and lights for Jeep Cherokee, Christian Customs jeep hatch wiper light not working

I have a 1997 Jeep Cherokee and when the tailgate is open lights and wiper work but when it is shut nothing works.  Is this something to do with the switch - if so where can I find it.

I would look in the wiring lomb and see if you maybe binding some wires in there. Just open the hatch and right there in the middle you will find 2 defferent wiring lombs. Check those and see if maybe something is grounding out when you shut the hatch. I really dont think it is going to have to do with any kind of switch. Just take your test light and start trying wires to see if they mess up when they are wiggled.
