Jeep Repair: Jeep doesnt start, jeep cherokee sport, neutral safety switch

QUESTION: I have a problem with my 1994 Jeep Cherokee Sport, It doesn't start!! When I turn the key all I here is a clicking sound and nothing else!! The battery is great and all the lights work. I started it and drove around on it a couple days ago...but today all i got was a clicking sound when i turned the key!! Please tell me all the problems that it may have, thanks!!

ANSWER: Sounds like to me you have a bad starter.  You may try hitting the starter with a hammer while having a friend crank it.  If it starts replace the starter.  I would also take a look at your battery terminals, make sure they are clean.  Hope I could help you!

QUESTION: I tried everything you told me...The jeep didn't start when i hit the starter..and the battery terminals are good!!!

Get a test light or a volt meter, lay under the jeep have a friend turn the key to the crank position, check to see if there is voltage at the little wire that connects to the starter, also check the large wire for voltage(it should have voltage all the time).  If the little wire has voltage your starter is bad.  If it is automatic try putting it in neutral and starting it.  If it starts in neutral you have a bad neutral safety switch.  You could also have a bad ignition switch, but its not likely.  Let me know what you find!  Hope I could help!
