Land Rover Repair: my 1995 range rover 4.0 se, safety circuit, factory test

Question
hey my 95 range rover 4.0 se wont start it was driving fine and then it lost power n died and now its saying gear box fault when i turn the ignition on an wont turn over what do you suggest thank you

Answer
If it says gear box fault and will not crank that suggests the neutral safety circuit has a problem.  It may think it's in gear, and hence it won't crank.  You can look that circuit over for faults and perhaps find a problem.  Look at the switch on the side of the gearbox and the associated wiring.  Get an electrical troubleshooting manual and trace the circuits; that should do it.  The easiest way to fix this would be with a factory test system, because it shows you the switch positions quickly and easily which makes diagnosis or adjustment of the switch a snap
