Land Rover Repair: Trans. failsafe prog, 2005 range rover, failsafe

I am getting the above message intermittently on my 2005 Range Rover HSE. I have had an issue at time when I turn the key to start the ignition, nothing happens. Once I turn the key again, it starts normally, and the past couple of times the "trans. failsafe prog" message has come up once it is running. Can you point me to what might be causing these behaviors? I really appreciate it!!!!

Your vehicle is complex and there is no one answer to what may be happening.  Most of the time, in my experience, that message appears because there's something up with the transmission.  But what?  That's the question.  The only way to know is to visit a dealer or shop with a T4 or Autologic system.  They can talk to the trans computer and figure out what's happening.  

So the only advice I can give is to make sure you choose a dealer or properly equipped LR specialist.  A general repair shop is probably not going to have the test tools or training to diagnose this.
