Land Rover Repair: Discovery alt & tach, alternator belt, belt tension

Question
Alternator belt squeaks until tach starts working ,doesn't matter hot or cold.In the morning I have to start it 3 times before it stays running.New battery alternator fuel pump.It seems like the fuel pressure leaks down after sitting. Thanks

Answer
If the alternator belt squeals, it's slipping.  That means the belt is too loose, or the alternator is too tight.  I'd check the belt tension, and also spin the alternator by hand to see how it feels.

The tach is driven by the alternator so it does not register until the alternator is turning normally.

You say you have a new alternator, but I've see enough junk rebuilds to know that you may have fitted a bad part.  It's that or the belt is too loose for some reason.

The "starting three times" issue is probably unrelated.  Did you actually test to see if fuel pressure leaks down?  If so, your choices are the pump, the regulator, or the injectors.  One or more must leak if it loses pressure.  If you changed the pump you may have ruled out one of the three possibilities
