Land Rover Repair: starting, land rover discovery, inertia switch

Question
My 1998 Land Rover Discovery shut down while driving and would not restart. I topped it up with oil as the oil was very low but the engine just keep turning over but would not start. What can the problem likely to be.

Answer
You have to start with the basics.  Pull a plug wire and crank it over while checking for spark.  If you have spark, check for fuel pressure.  Chances are, you have lost spark, fuel or both.  Did you hit a bump and trip the inertia switch, thereby shutting off the fuel pump?  Did you blow a main fuse?  Those are all things to check.

Good luck with it, and also check the Land Rover articles on my car blog.
