Land Rover Repair: Several issues, brake light switch, discovery 2

Started out with 2000 LR discovery 2 stuck in park. Through the internet found it was related to no brake lights. Changed stop light switch but not helping. Checked all fuses under drivers wheel. Before it all started though, a loud clicking was noticed under the gear shift knob. still no break lights and I keep having to pop button on gear shift to go anywhere.

It still does sound like a faulty brake light switch.  It is possible that it isn't installed correctly.  Also, there are two switches on the pedal, one for the cruise control and one for the brake light switch.  Make sure you changed the right switch.  It should have four wires going to it.  You can purchase a wiring diagram from Alldata or Mitchell.  Make sure there is continuity to the switch.
