Land Rover Repair: 97 Disco With Crazy Speedo, crank sensor, fuel pressure

Hello Nigel,
I have a 97 Disco. Recently while driving, the Speedo goes crazy. It waves back and forth when I use the accelerator.
After this happens, if I turn the vehicle off, it will not start. Then after waiting for awhile it starts again. This problem is intermittent, but seems to be happening more frequently. Any ideas about the solution are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

If you are talking about the speedometer and not the tachometer, then this is a separate problem from the rest.  It would most likely be the speedometer transducer that needs to be replaced.

It seems more likely that you are talking about the tachometer, which in conjunction with your starting problems, would indicate a faulty crank sensor.  Replace the crank sensor.  You can also check the fuel pressure when a no start condition arises.
