Land Rover Repair: land rover Transfer Case /parts problem, discovery series ii, land rover series

Question
Hi, we were told that our transfer case was cracked and gone forever and now they are saying the mounting plate is gone too and is another $800. We were told a used one would be about $3k! So we bought a NEW Series II transfer case online after the dealer confirmed it WAS compatable with a few minor adjustments. We have a 94 Disco I and the new case we bought was for a series II, not sure which year but maybe '98. The new case arrived and we sent it to the dealer, they then said it didn't match at all and there's no way it would fit. We've been told by quite a few experts that it Should work with some minor adjusting on the new transfer case. What is your opinion on this? We were told you were the expert on LRs!  Thank you so much for your time.

Answer
We interchange Discovery transfer cases regularly.  A Discovery Series II case (1999-2002) will fit your truck, with some work.

If you bought a Land Rover Series II case (1960s), that will not interchange.

You will have to transfer the range selector linkage from the old case, and you may have to swap or adapt the sensors.  Our company does swaps like that regularly.

Good luck,
