Land Rover Repair: Hood release, range rover classic, cigarette outlet

Question
The hood release lever on my 1994 Range Rover Classic had broken off.  I need advice on how to pop my hood.  My battery is dead too.  The plastic 'T' handle to the hood release broke off right at the point where the wire enters a small hole to go into the engine compartment, so I cannot grab at it with vise grips or pliers.

If I can just get the car out of park I can get it towed to a dealership, but I can't get it out of park while the battery is dead.  I tried giving energy through the cigarette outlet, but it wasn't enough juice.  Is there another way to get out of park?  Some pin to pull?

Answer
Hi Derek,

you'll have to grab the wire with a vice grip up under the engine compartment.  I don't know of another way to pop open the hood without causing some damage to that latch.

Better to sacrifice the cable than the latch.  If you know where the cable enters the engine compartment, it should be possible to fish it out from under the engine.  It won't be easy.  The other option would be thru the grill.  The cable is broken a should be free enought to pull within the engine compartment.

I wish I could be of more help.
