Land Rover Repair: No heat in early 1995 classic with 4.2, heater hoses, radiator hose

Question
Have checked thermostat in boiling water, it works. Replaced thermostat gasket, checked water pump by turning over engine while hose was loose, water came out. When new coolant added, and engine running, still no heat. Top radiator hose is flexible and feels empty to the touch when engine has idled for 20 minutes. Heater hoses are not warm to the touch after same idleing time. Heat gage registers middle, never hot. Still no heat.

Answer
Hello Lars,

Could be a problem with the heater core matrix.  Normal repair/replacement is through the dashboard...an expensive and time consuming repair.

If you have a possible blockage in the matrix you could remove the heater hoses from inside the engine bay, connect a garden hose to the OUTLET pipe and open the tap.  This will reveal if a blockage is causing the heater core not to function.  If not, you may have to replace the core.

Best of luck with this and best wishes for 2005.
