Land Rover Repair: Land Rover rear door, door latch, plastic lever

Question
The second car in a short while,1999 and 2000 Disco. Cargo door is stuck and will not open from outside or in.  First car went to the dealer for repair and it cost a fortune.  Is this a DIY fix?
Thanks

Answer
Hi Russ,

I have constant trouble with my cargo door.  Tire and door is too heavy so the hinges and latches suffer.

Add to this the cheap way that LR designed the door latch and key barrel:  commom rear door problems abound.

I suppose you could remove the door panel, subwoofer and then slowly remove the door latch mechanism to find out the cause of you woes.  Usually its the cheap plastic lever that wears down and skips off the latch hinge (on my series I).  Probably this is the same as your Series II.

It is a can-do job for most DIY'ers.
