Lexus Repair: Electrical Failing in 92 Lexus ES300, antenna mast, mast assembly

Question
Hi Zak
I own a preowned 1992 Lexus ES300, which I bought about a year ago with 80,000 miles on it. I recently sent my car to a mechanic, who replaced the radiator, but for some reason had to jump start my car, because the battery had died. The battery never had any problems and continues to work perfectly until now.
But since then, the car's elctrical and electronic system are failing. First of all, none of the interior courstesy lights turn on anymore. Then, the radio antenna stopped retracting. Later the automatic door locking and trunk switches stopped working. The window switches don't work either, but only after the car's been turned off. Finally, the CD changer only switches between CD 4 and 6 although all slots on the cartridge are full.

I do not know what is going on, but it might be useful to know that water leaked through the moonroof one day when it rained, but it was just a few drops. I hope you can tell me what the problem might be.

Thanks.

Answer
Hello, Well it could be that you are having some type of short problem but I dont think so. All of these problems are not uncommon problems for a 13 year old car. It sounds like some of these are just at the end of the life cycle. I have replaced parts for all of these problems.

Interior light: Bulb or switch
Antenna: Mast assembly
Possible trunk switch bad
Possible window master switch
CD changer unit bad
