Lexus Repair: 1995 SC400 power steering pump, high pressure hose, real nightmare

Question
If a power steering pump is making a considerable howling noise which varies when the steering wheel is turned from side to side is this likely to mean that the pump needs replacement. Or is it possible that air in the system could be making a howling noise? Where could I get a good quality rebuilt pump? I have done a fair amount of light engine mecanical work.  Is this a job I could possibly do in a weekend or is it a real nightmare.

Answer
Hello Joe, The noise can be caused by low fluid level from a leak. This could be coming from your pump, high pressure hose or steering rack. If the pump makes noise and it is full then you will need a pump. I can get one for you for $280 if you can't find one local. As far as how easy, it is fairly easy for an experienced Lexus tech.
