Lincoln/Mercury Repair: 94 towncar climate control, pack job, recharge system

Question
My A/C works intermittenly, when it quits,I can play with the dash thermostat and usually make it come back on. Would this be a sign that the climate control is bad? Is there a way to check?
Or could it be a different problem?

Thanks

Answer
HI Jimmy,

Here's an epsert from something I was reading on your A/C:

The high-pressure charge valve and low-pressure service valve are not absolutely perfect seals. Both valves may leak a very small amount of R134a refrigerant, less than 0.25 ounces per year, and still be within acceptable limits.

I might try going to Wal-mart or K-mart and they have a recharge system in a box for about $30. If you still have the problem Ford sells the control unit for measly $523.92 part number F4VY19980A and calls for 1.1 hours to install.

Sounds like a six pack job to me if recharging the system doen't do the trick.
