Mazda Repair: gas light and gas guage, mazda 323, cuting

Question
hi i have a mazda 323 the 1999 model and it was parked down for over a year finally got it up and running but the gas light dosen't turn off and the needle dosen't come up even though the tank is full.
is this a gas float problem and could i remedy this, if possible without dropping the tank and could i do this myself
thanks in advance

Answer
it would either be the gauge or the float not to sure if  you have to drop the tank but most of the time you have to. try removing the back seat to see if you can get to the fuel pump there and if not you'll have to drop the tank. replacing a float is rather simply as long as you buy one for that model and not a universal one. although they do come with instructions there's just some measuring and cuting with universal floats

note remember to releave the fuel pressure and connectors before trying to drop the tank and have a buddy help you they tend to be heave even if you drive it til it's empty
