Mazda Repair: 1999 Mazda 626, fuel injection system, air boxes

Question
I am currently experiencing trouble with my transmission.  When I start out, the car hesitates / sputters up to the speed of 40 mph, then it is fine.  Whenever I slow down below 40, it starts again.  If I need to get a transmission, will another year Mazda transmission work for my car (since I can not find a used or rebuilt).

Answer
i don't believe you have a transmisson problem

Engine stumble on acceleration)

could be one or all of these

fouled spark plugs
fuel injection system faulty or clogged fuel filter
incorrect ingition timing
or a leak in the air intake

first check for leaks in the air boxes and around connecting points
if ok check you pluges for your injector system before spending alot of money getting it serviced try running a tank or premuim gas with some injector cleaner ( remember to put the bottle in before filling)

if you feel that your comfortable checking the timing do so yourself it's really not that hard and the price of the gun isn't that. bad good investment for any tool box of the do it yourself mechanic.

try those before you go pulling trannies

and to answer your orinal question bepending on your make and modle most different year motors will fit as long as there from the same model year. i know that the mazda 626 mx6 and ford probe all use the same engine from 93-95 but 199 won't work do the the mandated OB2 law in 1996
