Mazda Repair: I have a 1997 Mazda MPV with no spark, camshaft position sensor, mazda mpv

Question
QUESTION: Yes i have a 1997 mazda mpv 3.0 6 cyl 2wd. My wife was driving it and it just stalled coming in the drive.  changed the fuel pump and uel filter and put no plugs and wires and also no rotor and distributor. It seems that there is no spark coming from the distributor. I also found two wires that are frayed on the harnes for the fuel injectors. I have gotten it to fire over a couple of times but now it just crans over like it wants to start but just wont. Any ideas?

ANSWER: Check for spark on all cylinders.  A bad ignition pick up could allow a partial signal which could fire on some and not others.  Also, timing belt.  If broken or it slipped timing you could get the same issue.

QUESTION: You say ignition pick up you mean the coil correct. I was getting fire on some of the plugs but not all of them. Now i really am not getting any spark at all. I have yet to check the timing belt.

Answer
MPV is not in my field but if you have a conventional distributor type inside the distributor should be a magnetic pickup that tells the coil when to fire.  If it is distributor-less then you have a camshaft position sensor and/or a crank sensor that tell the computer which in turn tells the coil when to fire.  Depending on which you have can vary the symptoms.
