Mazda Repair: exhaust, mazda 323, obout

92 mazda 323 1.6 in the morining my check      engine light comes on for obout 2 mintues then goes off then it come and off obout three more times i drive 36 miles when i get it will shut down it will not start back up less i leave it sit for a time about a 1/2 ahour or i hold the padle to the floor then it runs ruff for a couple of seconds the way home to checked the diagnostic codes and nothing came up my catalytic converter shield is partly there it looks like it got to hot. i need help bad only car

There is achance that it could be your CAT because if the CAT were to go bad it could affect the EGR valve which relies on the backpressure in the exhaust system. If this is what is causing your car to do the things that it's doing then you'd probably need to get a new CAT. If your EGR were to not work properly your check engine light would come on
