Mercedes Benz repair: Tranny or rear end., cv joints, independent shop

Question
My daughter has a 1993 190e mercedes. It has 135,000 on the clock and runs flawless. Well until yesterday she said it began to just rev and then start to move while in drive. I tested it myself and found the same. it reverses with no problems and once it kicks into gear or whatever it does it goes strong. Well If you put it into drive and hold the brake pedal to the floor you can hear a slow thumping whining grinding sound coming from the rear. What gives? the tranny fluid is clear and not burnt. What might be causing this problem cv joints or rear diff, or driveline.

Answer
This sounds like a problem that you are going to have to have a MB technician diagnose in person. There are numerous types of problems that can cause some or all of the symptoms you are describing and I don't want to get you going in the wrong direction. That is a problem that I would want to drive myself and complete a total diagnosis on before I would feel comforatble offering an opinion on.

Sorry I can't help you on this one. You should definitely go to the dealership or certified MB repair facility. DO NOT take a MB with a problem like that to an independent shop or they could take you for a bundle of money and not fix the problem.

Let me know what you find out.
